How To Escape Our Failing Civilization (Like Us)—Even When You Lack Unlimited Money

You just need to decide when enough is enough

We almost convinced ourselves to wait.

Before we moved to North Carolina and bought a 31-foot sailboat, we thought, “What if we just work for a little while longer, THEN start the adventure?”

We plugged the dollar signs into a spreadsheet.

We could’ve saved thousands of more dollars if we deferred the dream and rented a tiny apartment in the boring Denver suburbs for 6-8 months. We could’ve focused on nothing else but saving, THEN pack up our car, move to the coast, and buy a sailboat in early 2025.

But we scratched that plan.

We took the plunge in August 2024, instead — when we had an opening.

It was too risky to dawdle. Our dreams were already within reach.

Leading up to August 2024, my husband had suddenly lost his great job.

We had a small pile of dollars earmarked for a home renovation.

We marshaled the courage to pursue this once in a lifetime opportunity — now.

We bought the damn boat.
