Awesome Cory! You write really well and keep me moving down the page. I like your approach in that you know it's going to be a long journey, but you're not afraid to make those high risk decisions like learning to sail the unconventional path! Curious to see what you'll learn, good luck to you, Corey and Pineapple!

Thanks for reading, Stefano! I’m honored that you’re reading along, and appreciate the compliments.

It’s going to be a LONG journey. It’s very counter-intuitive, too. Like, technically, we’re only influenced by the weather & seasons now, but we still feel so much urgency to keep moving forward & getting to our destination. But man, I’m tired! And we need time to study & plan!

We are resting a bit today and just doing some boat projects in the same anchorage for at least 24 hours. We need to take these breaks, figure out new rhythms, think, reflect, journal, read, then keep trying & moving forward at the helm, again and again.

Well you have all the time in the world to figure this out, and I’m sure you are going to make the right decisions so just keep moving forward and each day out at sea is going to give you the answers. Slowly, it will come to you my friend!

I don’t know if I’d have the courage to live on a sailboat as you’re doing—so that’s super inspiring!

Are you also posting on YouTube? Would be cool to follow along as well there!

Also, please don’t be honoured I am reading!! I think you probably realised I am not someone who likes to be praised haha. Keep it up my friend! Amazing stuff.

We plan to get something up on YouTube, but probably not for a couple months. Thanks for your interest! But we have like 20 other projects, including learning all the fundamentals of this new life, before we take any bandwidth away and put it toward figuring out the YouTube game. Haha. It’s enough for me to be doing Substack!!

Okay, yes one step at a time. That’s my problem I think, trying to do everything at once. 😂

It’s a common one! It’s hard not to. Last night, we actually sat down together for 2 hours and made a spreadsheet of all the projects we need to do, and put a priority rating next to each item: 1 for within a week, 2 for 2-3 weeks, and 3 for “someday soonish.” YouTube is a big fat 3! Haha

This was an amazing read. The story itself was top notch and kept me interested throughout (poor Pineapple!) but the way you weaved some of life's greatest truths into the story was masterful. I would not worry about setting sail and doing things your way. I am sure there will be mistakes, but ships weren't made to sit at port-but sail! Doing things your way and learning first hand how to do it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Likely it will test both you and the captain in new ways, challenge you-push you. Just as you sail into the wind to regain control take this lesson to heart. Its when we are sailing into the headwinds of life, straight into the wind, that we often learn lessons, and regain our own control, if only until the wind shifts.

Thank you for your beautiful comment, again, Lady. You are so kind. I really appreciate you reading along and celebrating this journey with me. Also, I’m so glad that you’re finding some bigger truths that are applicable no matter where we are heading in life :)

Hi Cory. I am new to the liveaboard life as well, on a Cal 34" with my partner and my cat Coco... that sentiment of not-waiting-another-second resonates with me! Better now than never, and we'll learn along the way 🩷congratulations for your courage and journey so far, and fair winds for your journey ahead! I'll be following 😊 love from the PNW

Hello Brooke! That’s amazing!! Ours is a Morgan Ocean 31. Congrats on your courage & journey as well! We considered starting up in the Seattle area but the liveaboard situation looked a bit limited & crowded! Do you have a slip? Are you planning to sail long distances or hang around the PNW?

This is wildly fun and exhilarating. You will learn as you go. It's certain. You're now officially on the curve. Absolutely love the portrait of you two at the end! Does Pineapple stay in a crate of sorts while you're out there, or just tuck into a nook if you're on rough seas? I've also had a fruity cat... Bananas.

And I love Bananas!! So cute! I picked “Pineapple” because it made me laugh. Haha.

Thanks for the comment, Abby! And for the confidence. It’s sooo much to learn. I love what you said about being “on the curve,” though. That’s absolutely correct!

So far, Pineapple has been super happy hanging out in new little nooks below deck. Right now, she’s tucked away in a deep bed that is big enough just for an adult to sleep sideways (called a quarter berth). She has been outside in the cockpit with us, and we’ll put her leash around a little bracket attached to the boat, or walk her around above deck. But she’s usually quite ready to go back to sleep in her lil home. Haha.

You are doing it!! So exciting. Thanks for sharing the ups and downs of boat life! But, yes, life vests and harnesses are definitely important:)

Thanks so much, Jill!! I love that you’re reading along. And, absolutely about the life vests & harnesses. This is where being a renegade, rambunctious, anti-authority kinda person hurts us. It feels like wearing a helmet riding a bike, which is of course often necessary but feels so… square!! Haha. But rest assured, we learned our lesson.
